Spotlight on the New Stans Yorkshire Dirt Dash Event Route

We’ve taken your feedback on board and mapped a new and improved route for our Stans Yorkshire Dirt Dash event in 2025. Both days are packed with stunning scenery, varied terrain, and some hidden gems across the North York Moors. You can view all Dirt Dash routes on Komoot.

Yorkshire Dirt Dash Event Day 1: Whitby to North Yorkshire Water Park (60.3 km/840 m)

Your Yorkshire Coast Dirt Dash cycling adventure begins at the YHA in Whitby, our start and finish for the event. From here you will follow a scenic stretch of the Cinder Track to Hawsker. Furthermore, quiet country roads lead you to May Beck, where the gravel begins in earnest. You’ll cross Sneaton High Moor and pass Stony Leas, with sweeping views across the North York Moors.

You continue through the North York Moors Forest Park to Langdale End, where you join a a short tarmac section. Soon you’ll find yourself on more gravel in Broxa Forest. Farm tracks at the forest’s edge offer more big views before the route rolls down to Scalby. A beautiful off-road section through the Forge Valley leads you to East Ayton—an ideal spot to refuel and restock before the final leg to the North Yorkshire Water Park campsite, avoiding the busy A170 along the way.

Yorkshire Dirt Dash Event Day 2: North Yorkshire Water Park to Whitby (59.4 km/970 m)

Your second day at the Yorkshire Dirt Dash event starts gently on tarmac when you cycle to Hutton Buscel. From here you will be on gravel again soon, heading into Wykeham Forest. Soon afterwards you can enjoy the panoramic views over Troutsdale before you dive into the amazing trails of Dalby Forest. The café here makes a good pit stop, but more options await in Lockton (a cosy café) and Levisham (a fantastic pub).

From there, quiet lanes transition into gravel again on the former Forest Drive through Cropton Forest. Your route then opens up across the moor to Simon Howe—one of the highlights of the ride. Further on, descending into Goathland is a blast, followed by more scenic riding through Little Beck. Both villages offer you great stops for refreshments.

Just before Grosmont, you’ll ford the Murk Esk three times—expect wet feet! The final stretch winds through the tranquil Esk Valley, bringing you back full circle to the YHA in Whitby.

🏕️ The Campsite

Once again, we’ve taken your feedback on board to make this year’s experience even better! You’ll be staying at the North Yorkshire Water Park—expect flat pitchesproper toilets with washing facilities, and warm showers to freshen up after a day in the saddle. We’ve tested the ground—you’ll have no trouble getting your tent pegs in.

🍽️ Food & Drink:
Dinner and breakfast will be served at a lovely on-site café, with plenty of outdoor seating and a bar to relax at. Arriving early? Treat yourself to coffee and cake, or hit the water for a paddle—kayaks and paddle boards are available to hire directly from the Water Park.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Bringing Family or Friends?
You’re very welcome to turn the weekend into a mini-adventure. Family and friends can book their own pitch at the campsite, and there’s lots to do on site for all ages. Campervans are welcome too—just reserve a space for Friday and Saturday via the Water Park.
